Police have arrested a man in Lecce, Puglia, after a jogger was captured on a surveillance tape hurling three puppies across a street.

In the shocking tape, which dates from 5:30pm on Sunday afternoon, the jogger is seen walking down a road in the Trescorpi area of Lecce, followed by three puppies.

For an unknown reason, the man then proceeds to fling the puppies one by one over the wall of a neighbouring property, apparently oblivious to the surveillance camera capturing his every move.

Miraculously, all of the dogs survived, but the owner of the property, who discovered the puppies, reported that they suffered injuries.

The man, described by Italian daily Corriere della Sera as a 55-year-old jogging enthusiast, was arrested by police after the video appeared on YouTube.

You can see the video shown on the Italian news website Leggo below. It contains moments of violence that some readers might find upsetting.
