Passengers will endure flight cancellations and severe delays on Friday as Alitalia staff and air traffic controllers go on strike.

Alitalia pilots and flight attendants will strike between 10am and 6pm.

The walk-out was called by the Uiltraspori and Anpav unions in response to “unsatisfactory” responses from the company regarding flight operations and social security provisions since its merge with Abu Dhabi’s Etihad last year.

A spokesperson for Alitalia was not available for comment when contacted by The Local.

Meanwhile, air traffic controllers at Venice airport and Milan’s Linate and Malpensa will also strike between 10am and 2pm.

Budget airline Easyjet said in an online statement that “every airline flying to and from Italy, as well as those flying within Italian airspace, will be affected.”

The Italy strikes will take place alongside a third day of action by pilots of the German airline, Lufthansa.
