Italy set for heatwave from Sunday
Summer has finally arrived in Italy. The country will bask in a heatwave from Sunday, with winds from Africa bringing temperatures that will reach 38C on 21st June, the first day of summer, according to the Italian weather website, Il Meteo.
Temperatures will be slightly cooler in the north, while Florence, Rome, Naples, Sicily and Puglia will be the hottest.
Weather forecaster Antonio Sanò said the wind, called Ade, has its roots in the Algerian sahara.
“In recent years these heat waves have become stronger and longer lasting, and Ade is really of exceptional intensity and size.”
