A pair of thieves have stolen a tip jar, filled with €500, from a coffee bar in Milan, CCTV footage shows.

The footage, released by Corriere della Sera on Tuesday, shows a couple walking into Larky bar and ordering a coffee.

The woman then casually walks to the door to check the coast is clear. On her return her accomplice reaches for the tip jar; the barista turns around but fails to notice.

The thief is successful on his second attempt, casually putting the jar filled with tips saved since Christmas in a paper bag.

The pair appear to be in no hurry; enjoying their Saturday morning coffee while another customer is served.

“It’s incredible, I was sitting there and I was duped like an idiot,” co-manager Severino Lavanga told Corriere.

“They were just normal people. Even if I had seen it I would probably have thought it was an optical illusion,” he said.
