A man attempted to abduct a two-year-old child from its American parents at Rome's Fiumicino on Friday morning.

The family had been preparing for their return home to the United States when the man tried to take the child from its pram, Il Mattino reported.

The child’s father was quick to spot the kidnap attempt and after a scuffle the man, believed to be in this 30s, was detained by airport authorities.

The incident happened in the departure lounge of the airport’s terminal 5.
