Police were called to the scene in Codigoro, Emilia-Romagna, after a member of the public noticed something was awry at the Acquedotto del Delta company, La Nuova Ferrara reported on Monday.

A 28-year-old man was reportedly locked inside with the director, threatening him with a knife for having turned his water supply off.

The police cordoned off the area surrounding the company, before starting negotiations with the aggressor, La Nuova Ferrara said.

He was successfully coaxed out and promptly arrested for the violent threats and unlawfully carrying a knife.
