An Italian TV star, famous for playing pranks on people on live television, has been arrested after allegedly paying for sex with underage boys and producing child pornography, La Repubblica reported on Monday.

Gabriele Paolini, who once said paedophiles should be put to death, allegedly paid children between €15 and €50 to have sex with him after luring them over the Internet, the newspaper said.

He is also accused of taking pictures and filming himself having sex with two boys, thought to both be 16 years old, in a cellar in Rome. A third boy was seen naked as Paolini, who reportedly once claimed he was abused at 15, proposed sexual intercourse.

He was reported by the owner of a photography shop in the seaside town of Riccione, in the province of Rimini, after the shop received the photos to be printed.

Paolini acted “coldly and with professionalism” to “not only induce minors into sexual acts, but also to document the performance with the intention of spreading the material to third parties,” the lead investigator on the case said in a statement published by La Repubblica.

He is due in court on Wednesday.
