Fabrizio Fabbri was crushed to death when the front carriage of the train derailed at Santa Maria Novella station, La Nazione reported on Monday.

His colleagues raised the alarm but were unable to save the 35-year-old, the newspaper said. No one else was reported injured in the accident.

Both the police and train company Trenitalia have opened an investigation into the accident.
