Bersani was moved out of the intensive care unit at Parma hospital over the weekend, La Repubblica reported.

He is in a stable condition and will continue to be monitored by neurosurgeons at the hospital, the newspaper said.

The 62-year-old was rushed to hospital on January 5th after suffering a brain haemorrhage at home. He underwent a three-hour operation that night and was put in intensive care for the next six days.

With hospital visits restricted to just family members, Italian politicians on January 6th wished Bersani well with a standing ovation in parliament.
