A 15-year-old boy in north-west Italy committed suicide moments after sending a text message to a girl who reportedly rejected his advances.

The teenager hung himself in his family’s garage in Tonengo di Mazzè, in the province of Turin, La Repubblica reported on Wednesday.

Moments before killing himself the boy reportedly sent a message to a girl, saying: “I will watch over you from above.”

The pair had exchanged messages on social media the previous night and the girl had reportedly rejected him, La Repubblica said.

The boy, an only child, had returned home on Tuesday evening in a good mood after getting good results in a school physics test, the newspaper reported.
