Ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit to Rome on Wednesday evening, The Local picks out the best American places in the capital, ranging from a brunch spot to a cultural institute.

Obama's flying visit to Italy takes in the Vatican, the Colosseum and the presidential palace, but as yet no mention has been made of the American leader getting his bagel fix.

While he may not have time for an afternoon at the American Occupied Cinema (Cinema America Occupato), Obama may like to swing by an American Takeaways outlet to pick up a cup of watery caffeine so adored stateside.

Alternatively, the president could start his day of meetings with an all-American brunch at Rome's Bakery House.

If culture and academia are better suited to a head of state, The Local list also includes an American bookshop, university and cultural institute.
