Teacher 'promised girl riches' over Facebook

A teacher from Enna, a town in Sicily, was detained by police over the weekend for allegedly luring a teenage girl over Facebook by promising her "riches in the fashion world".

The 51-year-old allegedly created a fake profile on the social network to attract the 13-year-old, according to a report in the Catania edition of Corriere.

He reportedly boasted about is knowledge of the fashion world, promising to make the teenager “rich and famous in exchange for attention".

He allegedly said he would give the girl “clothes, shoes and beautiful things”, and that "for a girl like her" he would "do crazy things".

He is also reported to have contacted a friend of the girl's using the Facebook profile.

The teenager told her parents about the man's advances after he approached her close to her home in central Catania and "complimented" her, the newspaper reported.

Police were able to trace him after computer searches arranged by Catania's district attorney.

They are now looking into whether he approached other minors.
