German tourist dies in mountain accident

A 23-year-old German tourist died on Tuesday afternoon in a mountain accident in Val Badia in south Tyrol, northern Italy.
The man, who has not been identified by the Italian press, had been climbing near the village of San Cassiano when he appeared to lose his grip and fell at around 4pm, the Alto Adige website reported.
The alarm was raised by another man who was climbing with the victim.
But when the Pelikan 2 rescue team arrived, the young man was dead. According to the website, he died on impact.
Police are now working to determine the cause of the accident.
The accident comes two weeks after a climber was killed after he was swept into a crevasse by an avalanche in the Monte Rosa Massif that lies between Italy and Switzerland.
