In this week's Local List, we offer you a round-up of some of the most common 'rude' Italian expressions you can just about get away with in any social situation — even with your in-laws.

You're in the midst of a conversation in Italian when all of a sudden a word referring male or female genitalia crops up.

But fear not, you might have actually received a compliment.

Italian is a rich language and some of these phrases are a great way to express yourself, whether you want to pull someone's leg, show your ambivalence or pay someone a compliment.

But be warned, a few may need to be used with caution!
