Two dead in floods near Rome

Two people died after becoming trapped in their car in a flooded underpass near Rome, as more heavy downpours hit Italy.

The pair became trapped after the underpass in Ciociaria, a town south of Rome, flooded on Thursday morning, Ansa reported.

Police tried to free them, but were unsuccessful.

Italy’s civil protection authority has issued a weather warning as more heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the region, as well as in Sardinia, Umbria, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna.

The latest tragedy means a total of 13 people have died in accidents related to the freak weather since October 10th.
