3.7 earthquake hits Tuscany overnight

People living in the Florence and Siena areas were woken by strong tremors after an earthquake registering 3.7 on the Richter scale hit Tuscany overnight.
The epicentre of the 1.00am earthquake was registered 4km north of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence, the US Geological Survey said.
A 3.3 earthquake hit ten minutes before, while at least two 1.8 tremors were also registered, La Nazione reported.

Locals were woken by the larger tremors and took to Twitter, with one person saying it was difficult to get back to sleep after feeling their bed shaking.

Another Twitter user described the earthquakes as “very strong”.

While the tremors gave residents a shock, local media said no damage had been reported.
