With summer just around the corner, there’s no better way to view the Eternal City in all its glory than from a rooftop restaurant. We’ve scouted around for six of the best.

1. La Terrasse Cuisine & Lounge, Sofitel Hotel

Located by the famous Villa Borghese Park, the restaurant and bar at the five-star Sofitel hotel offers unrivaled views over the city, including St Peter’s Basilica. The restaurant offers Mediterranean cuisine with a French twist, with delicacies ranging from organic risotto to burrata cheese with tomato confit and delicate macarons.

Address: Via Lombardia 47

2. La Terrazza dell'Eden, Hotel Eden

A short stroll from the Spanish Steps and Villa Borghese, Hotel Eden houses the Michelin-starred rooftop restaurant La Terrazza dell’Eden, which offers some of the most magnificent views across the city and is popular with celebrities. Alternatively you can visit the hotel’s Il Giardino bar-restaurant – also on the roof – where you can enjoy one of the signature cocktails while listening to live piano music.

Address: Via Ludovisi 49

3. Restaurant Roof Garden, Hotel Forum

Located in the city’s historical centre, this hotel takes its name from the Roman Forum right next to it. Its rooftop restaurant offers fantastic views over the Forum and beyond. On the restaurant's website it promises “international cuisine with an Italian touch” and a wine list “to subvert your senses”.

Address: Via Tor de' Conti 25-30

4. Residenza Paolo VI

Go up to this hotel’s terrace for some fantastic close-up views of St Peter’s Basilica and the Apostolic Palace. Technically this one is more of a bar than a restaurant but light meals are served here.

Address: Via Paolo VI 29

5. Aroma Restaurant, Palazzo Manfredi

This historical villa turned five-star hotel offers magnificent views of the Colosseum from its Michelin-starred restaurant. The menu changes according to season and boasts the freshest of ingredients.

6. Zest Bar & Restaurant and Restaurant Sette, Radisson Blu

Both bar and restaurants are located on the roof of the Radisson Blu hotel, which is handily located by Rome's central Termini station. You can even take a dip in the hotel's two rooftop pools as well as soak in the view.

Address: Via Filippo Turati 171
