Italy's goal-king Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi has ended doubts about his future at Inter Milan by signing a contract extension until 2019, the club have confirmed.

"FC Internazionale is pleased to announce that Mauro Icardi has inked a new contract with the club," said a statement by Inter. "The Argentine striker's new agreement runs until 30th June 2019."

Icardi has been one of the few positives from Inter's mediocre season, scoring twice in their final league game to finish tied with Verona veteran Luca Toni at the top of the league scoring charts on 22 goals.

The 22-year-old was rumoured to be on his way out of the struggling Serie A giants, who failed to qualify for Europe next season despite Roberto Mancini arriving at the club in November pledging to achieve that goal.

Mancini, who led Inter to seven titles including three consecutive league titles in his previous spell in charge, has promised that Inter will "be back to challenge for the scudetto" next season.
