A dead body was found floating in Venice's Grand Canal on Tuesday, according to Italian media reports.

The man is yet to be identified, although police suspect he died of a heart attack, Blitz Quotidiano reported.

His body was found floating in the canal close to Santa Lucia railway station in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police said the man was found holding dentures in his hand.

“Hence, it is assumed that it is a person of a certain age who was overcome by a sudden illness and maybe, in an attempt to cope with the illness, approached the shore, perhaps to be sick, but then fell into the canal,” police said.

Police found no indication of violence on the man's body.
