Man jailed after tying wife naked to a tree
A man in the northern Italian town of Pordenone has been sentenced to three years in jail following years of domestic abuse suffered by his wife, who in one incident was tied naked to a tree.
The 50-year-old Romanian man began abusing his wife in Romania after they were married in 2001, but the abuse continued long after the couple had moved to Italy with their daughter, Il Gazzettino reported.
During the trial, the man's wife told the court how during one incident in Romania, her husband cut off her hair, stripped her naked and tied her to a tree for the night in order to ' show her who's boss.'
The couple moved to Italy a few years ago and the domestic abuse continued unabated. But after the man's wife left him, he stepped up his violent campaign and threatened to killer her and their daughter.
The wife told the court in Pordenone how her husband had left a bunch of lilies - the flower associated with death - on her car. In another incident, he pursued his wife's car with his own and rammed into it, causing spinal injuries to their young daughter, who was a passenger.
The judge, Monica Biasutti, sentenced the man three year's jail time for stalking and mistreatment and ordered him to pay €15,000 in damages to both his wife and daughter.
