The body of 24-year-old American airman, Halex Hale, who went missing in early July, has been found in River Livenza, in northern Italy, police have confirmed.

The Staff Sergeant's body, found over the weekend, was identified by his father and some of his colleagues on Tuesday, CBS reported.

An autopsy is due to take place on Wednesday.

Hale went missing from his base in Aviano, northeastern Italy, on July 2nd.

He lived close to the Aviano Air Base, where he had been stationed since February 2015. He was last seen at a barbecue in Sacile, about 15km from the base, and was supposed to go from there to another friend's home nearby, but never arrived.
