He had been on the run since a police raid in March 2nd led to the arrest of 33 members of the Contini clan and seized €20 million worth of illicit goods.

Mariano was finally located on Sunday when a police team posed as room service staff at the hotel and gained access to his suite.

The operation was part of a collaboration between the Carabinieri and Spain’s Guardia Civil.

He will now be extradited to Italy to stand trial.
