Top 10: Italy's best films
As the film and music festival in Ischia, an island that lies north of Naples, gets underway, The Local lists some of Italy's best films. Believe it or not, they're not all about love affairs and crimes of passion.
Ossessione (Obsession), made in 1942, was banned in Italy by dictator Benito Mussolini. It has all the elements of a good old-fashioned Italian epic: passion, death and guilt. In short: a drifter falls in love with an unhappily married waitress and they end up killing her husband. Their guilt then casts a shadow over their love for the rest of their lives.
