How to avoid getting ripped off in Rome
Remember those hapless tourists who were charged £54 for four cones of ice cream near the Spanish steps? If you’re planning a Roman holiday or thinking of moving to the city beware of tourist traps – and take note of our tips to avoid getting ripped off in Rome.
Do (almost) everything standing up. If you’re in the habit of taking leisurely coffee breaks at a table, bear in mind that you'll be paying for your seat. Take a look at the menu in any Roman cafe and you’ll see that there are two prices: one for the bar (al banco) and one for the table (al tavolo). “But the table’s right next to the bar!
