8 Millimetri Looking to hit the Roman party scene without breaking the bank? 8 Millimetri is one of the best student hangouts in Trastevere. It may be small inside, but at “Otto”, as it is known colloquially, patrons can also bring the party onto the street outside if it gets too packed. Located just near Piazza Trilussa, at 8 Via del Moro.Photo: 8 Millimetri
Baylon Cafe is pre-game central. You can always find the college crowd here early in the night, looking for aperitivo and cheap beer before a long night. It's spacious, has great food, and is known for its alcoholic smoothies and large assortment of mix drinks and draft beers. You’ll recognize the place by the staffs' tell-tale jean jackets and a large crowd hanging outside drinking out of exotic glasses. Located right in the centre of Trastevere, 151 Via di San Francesco a Ripa.Photo: Baylon Cafe
G-Bar They say nothing good happens after midnight. G-bar proves this is false. If you're looking to party with a young crowd until the break of dawn, G-bar has what you need. It’s tiny on the inside, but you won’t mind. Its small, neon-lit interior, cheap drinks and high-octane atmosphere is what defines G-bar. Located just near Piazza Trilussa, at 60 Vicolo Dei Cinque.Photo: G-Dee-Jay Bar
Freni E Frizioni Freni’s slogan is “drink to make other people more interesting”. You’ll find no shortage of young students here doing just that. It's hip, well lit, and has a large interior that is perfect for throwing parties, as many locals do. Drinks are moderately priced, but the quality and service cannot be beaten. You can find it at 4/6 Via del Politeama, right in the heart of Trilussa. Photo: Freni e Frizioni
Scholars Lounge Sure, it says “Irish”, but this is about as close to an American sports bar as you can get in Rome. Conveniently located in the centre, Scholars has a party atmosphere, shows all sports including NFL and baseball, and has karaoke and quiz nights. Dimly lit inside, rowdy fans and even rowdier bar tenders will have you feeling like you’re a part of the big game. But scholars isn’t just a sports venue, it’s also a great place to just enjoy their live music. You can find it on 101 Via del Plebiscito.Photo: Scholars Lounge
The Drunken Ship The name says it all. If you’re looking to get a buzz going, play some beer pong and really let loose, the Drunken Ship is for you. Upon entering you’ll get the feeling you’ve just walked into a college house party as opposed to a bar. Between its multiple beer pong tables, great music and bar tenders who are more likely to offer you a free shot than try to sell you an expensive drink, it’s a night you might not remember, but would miss if you did. Located at 20 Piazza Campo Dè Fiori.Photo: Drunken Ship
Akab Looking to listen to some great DJs, drink from a large variety of beers and immerse yourself in a rave-like atmosphere? Akab falls somewhere in-between Freni and G-bar, not to big or too small. Hip, but more down to earth than Freni, and high-energy, but more casual than G-bar. Akab is a great place to go if you’re in the mood for good quality, but not incredibly expensive alcohol and want to party, but not go completely crazy. Located at 69 Via di Monte Testaccio.Photo: Akab
Open Baladin Roma Maybe you have a hot date and feel like throwing on a blazer and classing it up a little? Open Baladin is expensive, but their incredible food menu, exquisitely designed interior and massive drinks menu is well worth the price tag. If you want to impress your significant other then take them to Baladin, it's sure to leave even the most jaded traveller in awe. Located at 6 Via degli Specchi, near Campo Dei Fiori. Abbey Theatre Looking for a real Irish experience in Rome? Look no further than the Abbey. A great place to have a pint (or five), watch the game and sing a song. You may feel that you’ve left Rome and have been magically transported to Dublin. The staff are Irish, the food is Irish, the beer is Irish, and most of the crowd that goes there has an alcohol tolerance that is most definitely Irish. The old mahogany bar and tables, along with its dimly lit interior, large assortment of comfort foods, and strong beers will give you a warm and cozy feeling that is perfect for the winter months. It's just a short walk from Piazza Navona on 51 Via del Governo Vecchio. Photo: Abbey Theatre
Big Star Bar This hip Trastevere retreat is perfect for anyone in search of cheap drinks and trying to make a break from the tourist crowd. Great for rocking out to good music or lounging in front of the in-house movie theatre to watch sport. Located at 25 Via Mameli.Photo: Big Star Bar
