Are United States home Covid antigen tests considered valid by the Italian government for proving negative COVID test results?

  1. Many people have been wondering this on the Tripadvisor Italy forum. Most believe that a home test that is done without any kind of outside proctor would not be acceptable. However, there is a home test kit that involves supervision by a proctor via tele-monitoring. The proctor will observe the person testing him or herself and will then issue a certificate of results that can be printed out. These test kits are called the Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card Home Test and are available from emed.com. Search the Tripadvisor Italy forum for “BinaxNOW” and you’ll see the experiences folks have with them. So far three people have reported being able to use the test to ENTER Italy (showing the results to the airline’s gate staff and then they apparently don’t get checked again in Italy or else personnel on the ground have been fine with them). However, it seems doubtful they could be used once in Italy to get the kind of green pass people get for 48 hours after a negative covid test. For that I believe you’d go to an Italian testing location/pharmany, which I understand are plentiful now.
