Beachgoers in Formia were completely oblivious to the body of an elderly holidaymaker as they enjoyed the sunshine on Monday, Il Messaggero reported.

Valentina Rausman, a 78-year-old tourist from Russia, was staying at the Fagiano hotel in Formia, a beach town in between Rome and Naples, and is believed to have drowned shortly after having lunch with friends.

Two women raised the alarm after seeing her body floating in the water. However, other sunbathers were apparently indifferent to the corpse as it lay on the beach, covered in a white sheet, after being pulled out of the sea, Il Messagero reported.
