A pensioner in the Italian town of Vigevano, in the northern region of Lombardy, has been sentenced to six months in prison and fined after indecent images of children were found on his iPhone. The images were discovered by chance after he left the phone in a bar.

Michele Roberto, 65, was sentenced to six months in prison and handed a €1,200 fine yesterday after police discovered 1518 pornographic images on his phone, 79 of which were of minors.

Roberto, who, according to Italian daily La Stampa had several previous convictions, forgot his iPhone at the Roadhouse bar in central Vigevano while out drinking on the night of August 19th, 2011.

According to reports, the iPhone was discovered by a member of staff at the bar later that evening when closing up for the night. Unable to identify the user of the locked phone, staff then handed the phone into the local police station where they made the shocking discovery.
