A woman in southern Italy has survived falling one storey in her apartment block after the entire floor collapsed beneath her feet, Italian media reported on Tuesday.

The woman, named as Patrizia M, was in her apartment in the village of Pontelatone when the accident happened.

The flooring gave way and she - along with all of her furniture - fell three metres to the floor below, Il Mattino reported.

The commotion alarmed local residents and the fire brigade were brought in to free the woman from the rubble.

Her survival was described as a “miracle” by villagers, the newspaper said.
