From 1953’s Roman Holiday to The Talented Mr Ripley in 1999, Italy has long held an allure for foreign filmmakers.

The country was celebrated as one of the best film locations in the world earlier this week at the Ischia Film Festival, with directors and actors having it on their wish list.

As the festival draws to an end, The Local has put together clips of ten of the best foreign films, many of which are timeless classics, that have helped earn Italy its place in the international film industry.
