The Italian language is loaded with colourful (and downright bizarre) ways to express a point. Here we’ve listed ten particularly imaginative pearls of wisdom.

While most Italian sayings sound odd when translated literally into English, many have an equivalent in the English language.

For example, while Italians say "A ogni uccello il suo nido è bello" (To every bird his nest is beautiful), in English we would simply say “There’s no place like home”.
