@David This article is clearly about people visiting Italy, so getting an Italian license is entirely off the table.

you dont need a IDP if you have a UK licence. Sometimes I think this site is targetted at the US market

Another option is getting an Italian Driver's License

It can be VERY helpful in areas where no English is spoken if pulled over.

I've been driving in Italy for 25 years and have never been asked to show an IDP. But it's trivial to get one, so I always do, just in case. Italy is like that.
