Commuters in Italy expected to face disruption amid 24-hour public transport strike
Commuters around Italy are expected to face delays and cancellations on Monday due to a 24-hour public transport strike.
The protest was called by the USB union in early February to demand better contractual conditions and higher wages in response to high inflation.
The walkout is set to affect all types of local public transport – from buses and trams to underground metro lines – but won’t impact long-distance rail services and taxis.
Under Italy’s strike laws, public transport operators are required to provide a number of essential services during protests falling on weekdays to allow commuters to travel to and from work.

British schoolboy dies in skiing accident during family holiday in northern Italy
A 14-year-old British schoolboy died on Saturday morning following a skiing accident on a piste of the Lagazuoi ski area, around 18 kilometres southwest of the popular Cortina D’Ampezzo resort, Italian media reported.
According to the report, the boy was skiing down the Lagazuoi red piste when he lost control of his skis and crashed into a tree at the edge of the slope.
An Italian rescue service team reached the victim minutes after the crash, but all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
No other skiers were involved in the accident.
According to il Resto Del Carlino, the boy and his parents were part of a group of holidaymakers staying in San Cassiano, east of Bolzano, South Tyrol.
Italian police investigators are analysing whether there were any hidden dangers or unusual features on the piste that may have contributed to the accident.

Canada took over the presidency of the G7 on January 1st, 2025, after Italy held it in 2024.
