Staff at Aeroporti di Roma, which manages Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, were set to strike for four hours, from 12pm to 4pm.
Trade union FAST Confsal said it had called the walkout over delays in renewing the airline industry's collective bargaining agreement.
The latest version of the agreement, which expired at the end of 2022, isn't set to come into force until January 1, 2026, leaving a 36-month gap during which workers' compensation rights were left in limbo, it said.
All flights to and from Italy's Tuscany region, where elections for the new regional president are taking place, are guaranteed, according to state broadcaster Rai.

According to the live trackers for Rome's Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, delays of up to four hours were expected on some routes, with numerous flights from Fiumicino to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport set to be affected.
Passengers were advised to check the status of their journey with their airline before setting off.
