Easyjet launches Glasgow-Rome flight route – British budget airline EasyJet begins operating a new year-round service between Glasgow and Rome Fiumicino starting on Monday.
The route will be served by three weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Lombardy railway strike – Staff of Trenord, Lombardy's regional railway operator, have announced their second strike of 2026.
The strike is scheduled to last for 23 hours, from 3am on Monday until 2am on Tuesday.
The strike could disrupt rail services across the region, including the Malpensa Express service connecting Milan to the airport.

Tuesday, February 3rd
Feast of Sant'Agata in Catania – Sicily's third-largest city celebrates its patron saint with one of Italy’s biggest religious festivals. The three-day event beginning on Tuesday draws up to a million people each year.
Events begin at noon with a procession from the Church of Sant'Agata alla Fornace to the Cathedral, featuring huge candle holders and traditional carriages. Tuesday evening brings fireworks in the main square, Piazza del Duomo.
Thursday, February 5th
End of winter sales in Bolzano – Thursday is the last day people in the northern Italian city of Bolzano will be able take advantage of the winter sales, or saldi invernali.
Sales end later this month in four other regions – Lazio, Piedmont, Puglia and Veneto – while discounts will continue into March for the rest of the country.

Olympic torch arrives in Milan – The Olympic flame arrives in Sesto San Giovanni on Thursday evening ahead of the opening ceremony.
From there until the ceremony begins on Friday, torchbearers will carry the flame through various parts of Milan, meaning some streets will be temporarily closed during the relay.
Friday, February 6th
Winter Olympics opening ceremony – The XXV Olympic Winter Games officially begin with the opening ceremony at Milan's San Siro Stadium starting at 8pm – which event organisers say will be less controversial than the opening of the Games in Paris.
The Games run until February 22nd, with Milan hosting ice-based events and mountain venues in Cortina, Livigno and Bormio staging skiing and snowboarding competitions.

Transport strikes in Bari and Abruzzo – A four-hour walkout by staff of Bari's public transport operator is scheduled for Friday morning from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
Staff of Tua, the main public transport provider for the Abruzzo region, also plan to strike on Friday for 24 hours.
Saturday, February 7th
Start of Sardinia’s Carrasciali Timpiesu carnival – The Carrasciali Timpiesu carnival in Tempio Pausania gets going on Saturday.
Spanning six days, the carnival is one of Sardinia’s most important, with cultural roots that date back to ancient times.
