If you're not able to take advantage of the special opening of Italy's FAI cultural heritage sites this weekend, there's another opportunity coming up: Genoa's "Rolli Days" on March 27th-29th.
The port city's UNESCO-protected late-Renaissance Palazzi dei Rolli offer (mostly) free entry on just two weekends a year, and this is one of them.
These are the buildings that were included in official lists or ‘rolls’ of noble lodgings that were chosen by lot to host important figures passing through Genoa from the late 16th century onwards.

They are generally regarded as some of the most outstanding examples of late-Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Italy.
Of the hundred-plus historic residences still standing in Genoa's city centre, 42 make up the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The spring opening usually takes place in May, but this year's dates have been chosen to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the buildings receiving UNESCO status.
Entry to most of the sites is free of charge unless stated otherwise on the booking page.
You'll need to act fast, however, as many of the slots are already sold out. Make sure to click ''Mostra altri turni" on each booking page to see all the available timeslots over the three dates.
If you're not able to make the March event, you won't have too long to wait: the next Rolli Days are scheduled for October 16th-18th.
