Monday July 6th
Florence rail and car traffic disruption – through Thursday
Planned works to replace the Ponte al Pino overpass bridge that runs over Florence’s central train station are set to affect rail travel from the Tuscan capital from Monday July 5th through Thursday 9th.
Train traffic will be suspended near the Campo di Marte station from 11pm Monday to 4am Friday.
Several streets will also be closed to car traffic for this week's works.

Catania and Prato public transport strikes
Staff of Catania's local public transport operator Amts has announced a strike on Monday, July 6th. The strike will be in effect from 10.30am to 6pm and from 9pm to the end of the day.

In the Tuscan cities of Prato and Empoli, local public transport may be disrupted during a strike scheduled for the evening, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
First week of summer sales
Summer sales (saldi estivi) began on Saturday, July 4th, in most regions of Italy. The sales, which offer discounts as high as 70 percent in some cases, will run for at least one month.
You can expect heavy foot and vehicle traffic at shopping centres and popular shopping streets.
Umbria Jazz Festival – all week
The summer edition of one of Europe's leading jazz festivals, Umbria Jazz, began on Friday, July 3rd, and will wrap up on Sunday, July 12th. The festival is held in the regional capital of Perugia.

Festival dei Due Mondi – all week
This is the last week of the 69th edition of the Festival dei Due Mondi, or Two Worlds Festival, in Spoleto, Umbria.
You can catch a performance of music, dance, opera, poetry or theatre until Sunday.

Sicily train disruptions
There could be disruptions to regional train services in Sicily from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday, July 7th.
Wednesday July 8th
Strega Prize winner announced
Fans of Italian literature will want to pay attention to the news on Wednesday, when this year's Strega Prize winner will be announced at a ceremony on Rome's Capitoline Hill.
The Strega Prize is the most prestigious Italian literary award. It celebrates its 80th anniversary this year.
Thursday July 9th
Italo train strike
Union Uiltrasporti has called a nationwide, full-day strike by Italo train staff and crew.
The strike is scheduled for 23 hours – beginning at 3am on Thursday, July 9th and ending at 2am on Friday, July 10th.
Italo operates Italy's high-speed trains. They usually post a list of guaranteed trains – which should run even during a strike – in the days leading up to a strike.
Friday July 10th
Vicenza and Bari public transport strikes
Transportation operated by Stp in Bari and by Svt in Vicenza will both be affected by a full-day strike on Friday, July 10th.
Saturday, July 11th
Palermo and Sardinia public transport strikes
Staff of Amat in Palermo – operating buses and trams – will be on strike on Saturday, July 11th.
The strike will be in effect from 8.30am to 5.30pm and from 8.30pm to midnight.
Walkouts are also expected in several Sardinian cities on Saturday during the evening hours.
Staff of ARST, the regional transport provider, in Sassari, Cagliari, Nuoro and Oristano may decide to participate in one of two strikes: a train strike from 6pm to 10pm, and a bus strike from 6.45pm to 10.45pm.
