When I applied for mine back in 2010 through the San Francisco consulate, the wait time for an appointment was 2 years. I don't know if they've increased the staff - they always seemed to be short-handed in those years, and the place is open only 3.5 hours a day. I'd hate to know how long the wait is there right now.

Back in January 2020, I was able to secure an appointment at my New York City consulate through their online system. The appointment was for January 2022, so the wait time was two years back in 2020. Not to mention that it took several weeks of trying before I was able to even find an open appointment. This is a lengthy process, and one must be patient.

The Los Angeles Consulate gas a SEVEN year waiting list for applications. Don’t waste your time ; hire an attorney in Rome. Took a long time to acquire all my dicuments, but my attorney handled everything including those important translations. From his filing time to my case before a judge in the Court of Rome ; 2 years (they tell me this is fast for Italy ?? Come on 24Apr2024 !
